Evaluation for my preliminary task

For the preliminary task we had to make a magazine front cover for a sixth form/college magazine. We have made a front cover for a magazine that would be made for a college that is specializing in computer technology.

We were going to name our magazine 'Your College' but we decided against it as we felt that it did not show that the college was a specialist college, instead we decided on the name information highway as this sounds more related to computers, also it would be more persuasive because if someone sees the name information highway they are more likely to know what it is about so will then pick it up.

The image which we have put onto the the front of our magazine is a image of Sam Carden looking at the circuit board we chose this image as we felt that it was eye catching because you can see sam looking straight at you and it is full of bright colours. We also chose it as it showed Sam looking at a computer this is good as it is very persuasive because if someone is interested in computers they are more likely to pick up the magazine if they saw the image of Sam. However this was not the first picture we chose for the front cover we did decide on a image of me pointing at the circuit board before hand but after talking to a photographer that came to the school we thought we should use a different image because in this image i was not looking straight out at the camera so we felt that it would not make someone want to pick up the magazine as much as someone looking straight at the camera as this would be a lot more eye catching so people are more likely to pick it up and read it.

If i was to do this again there would be a few things that i would change. One thing that i would change is that  the background of the image, this was because it wasent plane enough which meant we found it hard to write on the image sometimes as the writing would not show up. Another thing that i would change is the length of our subheads as i felt that they should have been shorter so that they would have been easier to read from a far so that it is more eye catching. I would also have liked to put the band in the top left of the page as that is where the eyes go first.

Overall i think that my front cover was good and that it fit the brief for the preliminary task.
